The funny part of all this drama was the claim that moving the Wendy's there would draw in big crowds...from where? Hamburg?
Supposedly, Wendy's would then be close enough to 265 for it to be put on the informational exit signs.
Valid point but extremely weak. I think it shows just how weak their overall argument was for this development.
the McCartin project was fueled by pure greed and not one iota about what was best for that area. This has been the developers' mantra here far too long. We have heard all this talk about progressive development since England took over but where is it? It's the same old redevelopment game that has gone on for too many administrations, its lip service and empty words.
You want downtown revitalization? I agree that downtown should be an integral part of that, something very reachable is the green roofs for healthy cities intiatives, something we, the former stormwater board, intended to embark upon, but until the redevelopment commission and the plan commission holds the good ole boy network of developers more accountable for environmental impacts and impacts on the hard working residents and property owners in this city, all these ideas will never reach fruition.
Again, maybe a professional city manager is the first step thus removing politics from policy.
EW, can you fill us in on the Green Roofs initiative? Was there an actual proposal before the redevelopment commission? What was the program? Why did it no come about? Was it just a money issue? What were the numbers?
the green roofs initiative is a national organization that will work with cities to incorporate vegetated, ie green roofs on buildings to mitigate stormwater pollution and of course cut energy consumption, why doesnt Carl Malysz and Rosenberger look at these kind of tools vs. the old way of thinking they have been stuck in since the 1980's.

Was there a formal proposal? If so, was the proposal for the city to install green roofs on city owner buildings? Was it to provide incentives for green roofs on private owned buildings?
we never got to that point because we resigned prior to the end of the Garner administration
What can be done to incentivize green roofs in New Albany? Anyone?
I'm sure that I heard someone presenting at the council meeting that by Wendy's moving to closer to 265 they could then be included on the interstate info signs. (as I referenced above)
Imagine my surprise that Wendy's IS ALREADY on the info signs. Maybe it is was the same person who said the Kroger's on Charlestown Rd was open 24 hours. Now who was that? Could someone "mail" me the answer!?
