Open thread: Your impressions of the candidates after tonight's meeting?

The mind was willing, but the jet-lagged body simply wasn’t able, and so I skipped Uptown's “meet the candidate” function. Sorry, Lloyd. Until we begin turning enough ad revenue to hire stringers, it’ll have to be that way, which means that maybe it’s time to start selling ads.

I’m sure some readers attended, and if so, please provide your impressions.

Well it was a great turnout of candidates tonight hosted by the Uptown Neighborhood Association.. I counted 24. The weather was not at its best so the public turnout was quit dismal. Just in case you want to know who took the time to be there, here is a list of the candidates that caught my eye. If I missed your favorite candidate and you know they were there please say so, and be sure they were not left off the list intentionally.

Mayor; Doug England, Mayor Garner and Larry Scharlow

City Clerk; Lisa Curry, Jennifer Mayfield, & Marcy Wisman

Council at Large; Richard Berryman, Valla Ann Bolovschak, Jack Messer, Kevin Zurschmiede, Tonye Rutherford and Shirley Baird

Council District #1 Theresa Timberlake

Council District #2 Pete Lyons, Harry Harbison and Bill Schmidt

Council District #3 Maury Goldberg, Steve Price and Charlie Harshfield

Council District #4 David Aebersold

Council District #5 Jameson Bledsoe

Council District #6 Jeff Gahan, Dick Stewart and Sam Anderson

Of all the candidates that I met for the first time tonight, Theresa Timberlake made a very good first impression. She seems to be honest and sincere. She was very friendly and a good conversationalist. Running against the incumbent Coffey, she will have to grow some thicker skin.

Dear New Albanian,
The turnout, despite the weather, was great. I will not repeat what Coop wrote but will expand on the list of candidates.

Out of 39 candidates only 26 were present at the event.4th district city council candidate pat mclaughlin-d was present. I do not know roger farley, candidate for the city council 4th district-D, so I do not know if he was present or not. City Councilman at Large candidate Steve Burks may have been present but I do not know if he was present or not.

The attendance was around 20-24 people. There were alot of candidates with their spouses and friends present.

The event was informal, allowed for people to mingle and talk to many candidates. I thank ther Uptown Neighborhood Asssociaion for hosting the event.

Maury

Pat McLaughlin was most assuredly in attendance - in fact, was one of the very last to leave. Pat's running for the Democratic nomination in District 4 after narrowing losing the primary four years ago.
